by thriding

Albano Olivetti is a 20-yr-old Frenchman who is 6’8″ tall, and has the kind of serve you would expect.

The week before February’s ATP250 in Marseille he qualied for the Bergamo Challenger, where he lost to the Serbian Dusan Lajovic. Lajovic tweeted

the guy i played yesterday served the fastest serve ever but it was on the challenger so they don’t accept it, 258km per hour! #lightspeed

Olivetti then qualified for Marseille and beat Matthias Bachinger in R32. In the R16 he beat Fish 6-3 3-6 6-3. Afterwards Fish cooed over Olivetti serve, saying not only was it fast, but very heavy too. In the next round Olivetti lost to Llodra 7-6 7-5.

After this tournament Olivetti reached his career high ranking of 286, but was unable to push onward, as he had picked up an injury.

His tournaments since returning to play:

  • R16 Guadeloupe Challenger hard
  • R32 Tallahassee Challenger hard
  • R16 Leon Challenger hard
  • QF Sweden F1 clay
  • QF Bordeaux Challenger (WC) clay
  • Q2 French Open clay
  • Q2 Halle grass
  • Q1 ‘s-Hertogenbosch grass

This past week he has just won the Great Britain F9 in Manchester grass

He was the 2nd seed and beat the top seed Josh Goodall 7-5 6-1 in the final. He had won one Futures tournament before, in France in 2010

He has a website albano-olivetti.com which lists his matches on a very slowly scrolling little window
